Activated charcoal is known for its ability to absorb toxins. As a result, it’s widely used in the medical community to treat poisoning and various stomach ailments. Using the idea that charcoals absorb toxins and impurities, many skincare companies have started develop products with “detoxifying”, “purifying”, and cleansing properties.
Potential benefits of charcoal are as follows:
- Deep-cleans skin
- Possible acne reduction
While science has yet to prove the efficacy of charcoal in skincare products, this has done little to affect the sale of activated charcoal (which is expected to reach $ 5,305 million by 2020). Furthermore, a quick Google search yields various blogs discussing how charcoal products healed their skin.
